2005 Buon Natale Barbera
Description: One of the major commitments that Jim Clendenen made in 1994 was a 7-acre Barbera vineyard in the very cool Santa Maria Valley. To plant Barbera in a Pinot Noir zone was a tremendous gamble, and the result has been a rewarding one. All of our efforts and experience during the last 8 years have been directed towards �warming up� a cool, elegant, high acid site. With our 2000 vintage and beyond, we believe that we have unlocked great depth and good balance in the wines. This is the largest bottling of our Cal-Ital line-up. We aim to capture rich fruit, complexity, spiciness, and length. This is an exceptionally food compatible wine. We have definitely achieved the balance we are seeking in the 2001 vintage. This regular Barbera (no new oak) is fruit driven with citrus peel, leather, blue & black berries, earth, and pencil lead. Its supple texture and integrated acidity are the hallmark of our style intent and cool climate location.
