From a very small crop from the Clendenen family’s estate vineyard, this is a more intense version of Viognier. The grape variety is somewhat difficult to grow with a narrow window for harvesting when all the elements line up for a balanced wine. Harvest too soon and the wine is one dimensional. Harvest too late and it is flabby and lifeless. The ideal is a well balanced, very aromatic white, showing elegant but complex flavors, and a lush viscosity on the palate while maintaining a crisp finish. This wine has achieved the goal. Though more mineral and stone than fruit driven, it offers significant floral aromas that segue to honeysuckle and melon Viognier notes accentuated by a natural, mouth-filling suppleness.
Score 91 Antonio Galloni's Vinous - Josh Reynolds
"Light, bright gold. Melon, nectarine, violet and smoky minerals on the highly perfumed nose. Supple and expansive on the palate, offering gently sweet honeydew and pit fruit nectar flavors, with chalky mineral and ginger nuances adding lift and cut. The silky, focused, fruit-driven finish echoes the nectarine and citrus fruit notes."
