2015 Pinot Noir Runway Vineyard
This new vineyard first earned its wings with the 2013 vintage with a vineyard designated bottling of its own at ABC. It is very limited in production, so get it now. Runway Vineyards planted 16 acres of vines in 2008 on a 1,000 acre parcel. It is located near Bien Nacido Vineyards in the Santa Maria Valley but the fruit from is very distinct: richer and more intense. The family-owned business was founded by Abel Maldonado, Jr. (California’s former Lieutenant Governor and Senator) and his daughter Erika Maldonado.

Score: 94 Points "A new single-vineyard bottling that made its debut with the 2013 vintage, the 2015 Runway Vineyard Pinot Noir is lovely, wafting from the glass with notes of griotte cherry, underbrush, spice and dried rose petal. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, supple and satiny, with a cool core of succulent fruit and a lingering, savory finish. This is a very attractive and incipiently complex Pinot Noir from Jim Clendenen. The fact that it saw only one-third new oak may explain why I appreciated it so much." - William Kelley
