Au Bon Climat
Distinctive wines of vision and harmony. An homage to Burgundy, Au Bon Climat features many renditions of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Blanc, with balance and character critical elements in every wine. These wines age beautifully because of their balance and restraint. For older vintages or large format bottles, see menu.
The 2017 is one of our best vintages. Rich and powerful, this well structured wine has a darker ruby hue as well as a beautiful nose of cherry, dried cranberry, earthy forest floor, ground herbs, smoked earth. Named after Jim Clendenen's son. Scored 94+ Jeb Dunnuck.
After 2 decades we have returned to Oregon. This young Pinot is complete, supple, delicious now, but will age for years to come. It is loaded with aromas of ripe berries, both blackberries and strawberries. The underlying power and complexity are “under the surface” currently, but will be apparent soon. The 25% of stem inclusion gives the wine a nice spice note, not seen in Oregon Pinots. Scored 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate; 90 points Wine & Spirits Magazine
NEW - Our First! The wine has a beautiful deep garnet color and shows aromas of spice and earth that transition nicely to berries of all sorts. 18 months barrel age in Francois Freres oak, 33% new, increases the wine's depth, texture, and interest. Our first vineyard designated Pinot from this location.
Along with the deep berry/cranberry fruit character, this lovely wine shows the whole spice cabinet in aromas and flavors - Chinese five spices, nutmeg, cinnamon, and cardamom, followed with a balanced vanillin note from new French Oak barrels.
Every once in a while nature provides the substance for a truly remarkable wine. "Larmes de Grappe," or "Tears of the Whole Cluster," is one such wine. Amazing, Unbelievable, Mind-boggling - We haven’t made the wine since 2005. Jim only makes it on select vintages when we can produce a high-quality, 100% whole cluster, pinot bottling. Aged 2 years new french oak. Incredibly rich. Scored 95+ points Antonio Galloni's Vinous; 90 points Robert Parker.
From one of the great Pinot vineyards of the world. The wine has a nose of perfumed red and black cherries, star anise and earth, feeling a touch youthfully reticent. The palate is silky and expansive with nuanced, spice-laced berry flavor layers energized by lip-smacking acidity, and it finishes very long and nuanced. Scored 95+ points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate; 94 points Wine & Spirits Magazine; 92 points Wine Enthusiast; 90 points Vinous.
A beautifully crafted wine of earthy berry fruit and depth with the tight structure, spice and mineral notes singular to this vineyard location. It is a promising beauty needing more time to show off all it has to offer. Scored 94+ points Antonio Galloni's Vinous; 94 points Prince of Pinot, 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.
This vineyard is known for Chardonnay with a flinty, crisp structure and complex nature. The 2018 is unusually forward yet well constructed, with a creamy, supple texture along with wonderfully expressive fruit. Drinking beautifully now. 92 points Wine Enthusiast; 92 points Jeb Dunnuck; 92 points Wine & Spirits Magazine.
Ample, creamy and super-expressive, with terrific textural nuance and tons of class. Clean mineral notes frame a core of ripe pear, jasmine and mint in a wine that deliver superb quality for the money. The delineation and sheer classiness of the 2017 is impossible to miss, as are the soft curves that give it so much allure. Scored 93 points Antonio Galloni's Vinous; 91 points Wine & Spirits Magazine.
Sanford & Benedict Vineyard is one of the great vineyards of the world. The "30th Celebration" vintage was so good, we created a 31st! Differentiating it from our annual Sanford & Benedict bottling, we used specially handcrafted Francois Freres barrels, and gave it extended barrel age to create this remarkable wine. 135 cases produced. Scored 95 points Jeb Dunnuck; 95 points Antonio Galloni's Vinous; 94 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.
