2005 Pinot Noir 30th Vintage Selection
98 cases produced (22 cases of magnums)
Every once on a great while, Mother Nature provides the stuff to do something special. This was entirely the case in 2005, where we had so much top quality pinot noir that we needed to find reasons to celebrate.
So, we got out the calculator and divined that, counting stints in France and Australia, that 2005 was Jim’s 30th Harvest.
And so for the 30th Harvest Selection Pinot Noir, Jim Clendenen decided on one lot of pinot noir – just 4 barrels – from his best custom block at Bien Nacido. The lot was 100% clone 777 with 2/3 whole cluster in the fermentation. (We had excellent ripening of stems in 2005 and were able to do several different stem inclusion lots).
6 months after bottling this wine is already showing surprising sweet, juicy fruit and compelling aromatics of bramble and cola, in addition to the traditional Bien Nacido hard spice and earth. So drink, ye hearty souls, or be rewarded fittingly for your patience and understanding.
