2009 Chardonnay Nuits-Blanches au Bouge

Compelling (Blue Series)

A combination of a rich, viscous texture with slight tropical fruit flavors backed by gentle toasty oak, make this Chardonnay a knock out. 90 points The Wine Spectator.

The fruit is 40% from our estate Le Bon Climat and 60% Bien Nacido vineyards. Our goal with Nuits-Blanches has always been to make a richer, riper version of our single vineyard Chardonnays. The chilly Santa Maria Valley produces amazing Chardonnay year after year. Even in 2009, after an inch of rain and some hot days, the ripe Chardonnay at Bien Nacido was still loaded with acid. The low pH and high TA give this wine its backbone. A wine with this structure will age for 10 to 15 years.

Stone fruits along with anise, nutmeg and vanilla from oak aging make up the aromatic profile. Flavors of apple, pear and fig are the most obvious, with many more subtle nuances to be revealed by aging.

“Nuits-Blanches au Bouge” translates as a late night Burgundian party. Leave it to your imagination to visualize that event.

This is one of my favorite wines from ABC. Light gold in color. Citrus peel smell. The apple and pear shines through in the tasting, but there are a lot of subtle flavors, like cinnamon on the backend. A great chardonnay for the Fall.
