A rich, meaty Pinot with deep color. Cola and boysenberry aromas are evident and joined by mouth-filling flavors of plum and bitter chocolate on the palate. Score: 91 points Antonio Galloni's Vinous.

The Los Alamos growing region is situated between two acclaimed appellations and the grapes there seem to have the best of both worlds; the long, cool growing season (like Santa Maria in the north) providing firm acidity, and the warmth (similar to the Santa Ynez Valley in the south) to ensure complete ripeness and depth. Sandwiched in between, Los Alamos has warm days and very cold nights with the fruit from this region achieving incredible concentration and balance. Its slight, well drained soils and a wide range of microclimates allows for a diversity of varietals.

The Los Alamos Vineyard has a special significance. In 1982, Clendenen, with his then partner Adam Tolmach, began making wine in a converted dairy barn on the Los Alamos Vineyard. This vineyard was purchased in the late 80s and ABC was no longer able to get any fruit.  In ’05, through new vineyard manager relationships, we’re very happy to be sourcing again from this “historic” source.

After a warm August, the fruit was harvested in early September and put to barrel. The '09 Los Alamos historical vineyard Pinot Noir blends together three different lots of Pinot that received 20 months barrel age in French oak. The Pinots from this region have a deep, meaty character. Cola and boysenberry aromas are evident and joined by mouth-filling flavors of cherry, plum and bitter chocolate on the palate.

From Antonio Galloni's Vinous: Score: 91 "Bright red. Floral-accented aromas and flavors of fresh red berries and anise, picking up a sexy hint of vanilla with air. Juicy and precise on the palate, with very good depth of flavor but no excess fat. Closes on a note of candied rose, with lingering sweetness and excellent clarity. This wine is delicious now but is balanced to age." -- Josh Raynolds
